How Do We Create Our Future?
|A question from a client, “I was thinking about the concept that we create our future. Do you think I create the problems in my life? Is my future already set? I just can’t understand this. Thanks.”
I hear this a lot from my clients. The Law Of Attraction helped people begin to explore the concept that we create our lives. Unfortunately, I feel like the movie/book did a poor job of relating the subtleties of this concept. So, many people I work with have the sense each time they worry about something bad happening, they are creating it to happen. Also, if they want a new car, house, partner, then they have the idea if they just think about it the “right” way then it’ll happen.
If every thought we had manifested as reality, this would mean we are creating from our Ego, not from spirit. Our Ego is the thinking/worrying/planning/short term self-focused part of us. Our higher self or spirit self is the essence of us that is connected with divine and sees the big picture of our soul and it’s journey in life.
When we feel we create from Ego, there is a lot of anxiety about creating our life “wrong” or “right”. It’s like a prison of needing to think or vibrate at only the energy of love, joy, peace or our life will be a disaster and filled with sadness, anger, frustration if we think or feel these things.
Oh my goodness, I feel stressed just writing about this. The stress that is created from trying to stay in such a small corner of life with joy, peace, happiness all the time makes me crazy to think about. What I see is a lot of people pushing aside feelings of anger, resentment, worry to be “love and light” so they manifest only “good” things.
It just doesn’t work like that, thank goodness! Please relax and know it’s ok, and even best, to really feel any emotion. Feel your happiness, sadness, anger, joy, all of it. In Buddhism, this is true freedom, being able to flow with and feel everything in life. The Dalai Lama reports how he feels sadness, anger, joy and he lets himself fully feel these things. He also makes it a practice to find compassion for himself when feeling these things, and for those who have been a part of him feeling this way. He is sad for the Tibetan people and then has a practice to find compassion for the Chinese who torture those in Tibet.
So, to get to the heart of it, as I’ve seen it, we create our life from our higher self, not Ego. There is a divine energy which orients us to the people and situations perfect for our learning as a soul. I think of it as the essence of myself connected to the divine, is projecting the movie of my life which appears before me. My thinking mind has a co-created aspect to the movie, but it is always exactly what I need in each moment for my soul’s growth. The situations and people that bring heart wrenching grief, abounding joy, dark anger, all of it are created for me- with me, for my learning in the school of life.
The Dalai Lama didn’t have “wrong” thoughts to get the people of Tibet taken over by the Chinese. It was perfect for the learning of everyone that it happened. This is where we get stuck, not learning from the wonderful or terrible things that happen in our life. Once we learn our lesson, we move on to the next. This is how we create our future. Hand in hand with the divine. Relax, your future will unfold perfect for your soul.
