Journey to restore health Day 2
|Refer to Day 1 for the full story.
I did not sleep well last night. So. Tired. Today. Grrrr.
All the relaxing I did earlier in the day, didn’t have an immediate benefit, though I know that any relaxation is helpful in the bigger picture.
So, after getting up at 7am and feeling completely exhausted, I scheduled acupuncture again. Luckily, my friend, his regular nanny, was available to watch him today.
I have three acupuncturists. One in Boulder that’s great with herbs. One in Lafayette that’s great with acupuncture and close to my house. One that is amazing with everything but is booked out far in advance and hard to get an appt. I’m happy to give any/all their info if anyone wants a great acupuncturist.
I went to the one that’s great with herbs. She believes my sleep issues are related to general stress which is affecting my liver causing my wirey-ness, big fluctuations during the day in blood sugar which increase cortisol (I’m not good at eating regularly or eating enough protein) and with low progesterone as that helps us stay asleep. I’m now taking these herbs:
- Vitex- this regulates hormones. It’s a favorite of most herbalists for any hormone imbalance, especially low progesterone.
- Adaptogens. These are herbs that help your adrenals adapt to stress in a healthier way. I’m on a formula that has a number of them for balance. The three very common adaptogens are: Ashwagandha, Holy Basil, Rhodiola. Each are great if you feel that wired but tired fatigue.
- GABA. This is an amino acid and some research says it’s like a tranquilizer to the nervous system.
- Melatonin. This is actually a hormone and I don’t like to use it too often, but it usually helps me sleep. So, I’m taking it for a bit, until I regulate myself.
- I need to add in a liver tonic herb. I’ll buy Milk Thistle tomorrow as that’s my favorite.
I have a hundred, or so, herbs around the house, so I’ll take a few more on any given day, based on what I feel like I need. I love herbs!
Praying for good sleep tonight!
